I had ordered some diamond dust to try making one of these and got bored one night and instead of looking for a "good" container to do this in, I cleaned out a 20oz soda bottle and used that.
- USE DIAMOND DUST NOT REGULAR GLITTER
- You can use any see-through container, I used a soda bottle because it's not like I planned on reusing the jar.
- I never found anything that said what size glow stick to use...I used a bracelet sized one (pack of 5 for $.99 at Party City) and it worked just fine. It's the cheapest way to buy it, seemed like the easiest to cut, and I only needed one so I have 4 left over for another time or some glowing-bracelet fun.
- I also didn't see anything about how much glitter to use. I used the soda cap as a scoop and used somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 of the cap and it was more than enough. Very little is needed.
- This project uses GLASS - be careful.
Really that's pretty much the to-do list...throw it all in the jar and shake it up.
I feel like it didn't glow quite as long as a regular glow stick, maybe opening it changes it or you normally don't notice the drop in brightness because the light is more condensed...
Basically it was a quick activity...kinda fun, very easy, not nearly as impressive as the photoshopped photos lead you to believe... I don't think I'd want kids to touch the glowing mystery goo from inside the stick, I'd suggest making them then taping shut the top or something...plus there's glass.
